Great Sicily is an 9-day-tour, perfectly paced for you to enjoy the many pleasures that Sicilyregion has to offer. Our tour begins in Palermo and proceeds throughout the Sicily region, and ending in Catania airport.During this marvelous tour you will enjoy many picturesque villages such as ERICE, CEFALU, MARZAMENI and TAORMINA. You will also enjoy many hand selected local restaurants with authentic Sicilian dishes, some of the best wineries in the area as well as some special wines, experience a fun street food and of course some free time for shopping or enjoying the sights at your own pleasure.

ITINERARY


Day 1 – Welcome to Palermo

Welcome to Sicily! Our driver will be waiting at Palermo’s int. airport (PMO) to escort you to your hotel at either 11:30 am, 14:30 pm. Once at your hotel you can rest or, if you wish, start exploring the beautiful city of Palermo on your own. In the late afternoon, meet with our tour guide for a sighting tour followed by a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.

Hotel: Piazza Borsa, Artemisia or similar (3 nights)

Day 2 – Palermo – Monreale – Sanctuary of Santa Rosalia – Mondello

This first morning, you will rendezvous with our local guide for a walking tour of the city center which includes the honey-colored cathedral and Piazza Bellini. From there, you will travel to the town of Monreale to visit the magnificent 12th century Norman Cathedral. Picturesque views of the Conca d’Oro, famous for its 50,000 square feet of precious Byzantine mosaics, will astonish you as you make your way through the ancient city. Later visit the Sanctuary of Santa Rosalia and the Mondello beach. Tonight enjoy an authentic meal in one of the local restaurants we have selected for you.

Day 3 – Cefalù

Sicily offers many amazing sites but Cefalù is certainly among the finest. This charming coastal town is renowned not only for its spectacular Norman Cathedral with dazzling mosaics, but also for the medieval wash-house that was built into the rocks. Lunch will be served at local restaurant. Enjoy the evening at your pleasure in Palermo.

Day 4 – Erice – Scala dei Turchi – Agrigento

After breakfast, we leave the city of Palermo and move to the medieval town of Mt.Erice, situated 880 meters above sea level and surrounded by ancient Elimi and Phoenician walls on the northeastern side of the city, which offers breathtaking sights in truly unique landscapes. Here, you have free time to stroll through the charming old stone streets and medieval churches. In the afternoon we stop to admire the magnificent “Scala dei Turchi” before meet our local guide a walking tour of the Valley of the Temples. This UNESCO World Heritage site is home to five ancient Greek temples dating back to the 6th century, BC. It is here that you will find some of the world’s most striking and well-preserved Grecian ruins outside of Athens. We conclude this day with a magnificent dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 5 – Ragusa – Noto

This morning depart to Ragusa, a city divided into two parts: the upper part built after the earthquake in 1693, and the lower part that is called Ragusa Ibla. Visit the city center and the Dome “Basilica di San Giorgio”. In the afternoon, drive to Noto, renowned for the harmony and unity of its Baroque style and is today declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Tonight’s dinner will be served at an authentic restaurant.

Hotel: GH Sofia, la Corte del Sole or similar (2 night)

Day 6 – Marzamemi – Noto

Today visit the beautiful village of Marzamemi and its beaches followed by lunch at local restaurant. Enjoy the rest of the day at your own pleasure in Noto.

Day 7 – Syracuse – Savoca – Taormina

Today, enjoy the scenic beauty and treasures of the island’s east coast on your way to Syracuse. Here is where you will see the archaeological site of the famous Latomie of Paradise, the Greek Amphitheatre, the Roman  Amphitheatre, and the Dyonisios ‘Ear’. Additionally, you can have the opportunity to visit the island of Ortigia and the small Baroque old city center built by the  Aragonians.  In the afternoon, we will stop in Savoca, a small village featured in different scenes of ‘The Godfather’ movies. Tonight Taormina; affectionately called ‘the pearl of the Ionic Sea’. Founded in 400 BC, this beautiful city overlooks the peak of Mount Etna and the sea. Your evening will conclude with a pre-arranged dinner at a local restaurant/hotel where you will enjoy local dishes.

Hotel: Ceaser Palace, Villa Diodoro or similar (2 nights)

Day 8 – Mount Etna – Taormina

This morning walking tour to visit Corso Umberto, and the 3rd-century Greek Amphitheater, the second largest of its kind in Sicily. Situated above the city, it affords spectacular views of the bay and Mount Etna. Free time for shopping. In the late afternoon we’ll escort you to Mount Etna the highest active volcano in Europe. Dinner will be served on the slopes of Etna with a wine tasting from local farms.

Day 9 – Airport transfer

Arrivederci Sicilia! Your airport transfers arrive at Catania Int Airport (CTA) at 6:00 am and 10:00 am.
