Lombardy

Lombardy region, with its capital city Milan, can be considered the heart of Northern Italy with its central position and the industrial and cultural importance. About 10 million people live in Lombardy, forming more than one-sixth of Italy’s population, and more than a fifth of Italy’s GDP is produced in the region, making it the most populous, richest and most productive region in the country. It is also one of the top regions in Europe for the same criteria. Within its large territory the landscape comes in infinite variations: the Lombardy region ranges from the Alps to the countryside, from art cities to small villages rich in history, in what is Italy’s big lake district (there are more than fifteen lakes, including the popular Lake Como).
