Asti is in Piedmont Region and it is located in the North West of Italy: it is the home to the famous Palio (the oldest medieval horserace in Italy), which takes place during the third week of September. Famous for its high quality white wines, especially Cortese, Piemonte Chardonnay, Moscato di Asti and, of course, Asti Spumante DOCG. It also hosts the international wine festival Douja d’or. The area around Asti is also renowned for its cheeses, such as the robiola of Roccaverano and Robiola di Cocconato. The typical dishes of the territory are agnolotti, Monferrato-style potato gnocchi, ciotola di trifulau (cheese fondue with polenta with a sprinkling of truffles), Piedmont-style boiled meats, and, of course, bagna cauda. The local desserts include amaretti (amond macaroons) from Mombaruzzo, canestrelli and hazelnut cakes.
