Great Tuscany-Dicembre2013Great Tuscany is an 8-day-tour, perfectly paced for you to enjoy the many pleasures that the Tuscany region has to offer. Scheduled to depart on Sunday and returns the following Sunday. Our tour begins in Rome and proceeds throughout the Tuscany region to end in the Roman Castles (Summer residence to the Pope). With comfortable morning departures we travel from one based city located in the Chianti area to each of the other cities.

During this marvelous tour you will enjoy ROME, "The eternal city", FLORENCE, "The birthplace of the Renaissance" and many picturesque villages such as MOLTALCINO, SAN GIMIGNANO, PISA, LUCCA, SIENA, MONTEPULCIANO, PIENZA and the ROMAN CASTLES.

You will also enjoy many of the hand selected local restaurants with their authentic regional dishes, some of the best wineries and the special wines, experience a fun cooking class and free time for some shopping or enjoying the sights at your own pleasure.

Expect to be surprised by the many villages and enchanting landscapes always charming in its natural simplicity.

Day 1– Arrive in Rome, Italy

Ben Arrivati in Italia! After arriving at Rome's Fiumicino Leonardo Da Vinci Airport, you will meet our Tour Director and Tour Driver prior to boarding our airport transfer bus to go to your hotel at 9:30 am, 12:30 pm or 3:00 pm. At your hotel, you should rest or, if you wish, you may start exploring Rome, the “Eternal City” on your own. In the afternoon, meet your travel companions before leaving your hotel for a comfortable sightseeing bus ride of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and St. Peter’s Square, the Circo Massimo, and Via Veneto followed by a special Welcome Dinner at one of Rome’s lively restaurants.

Hotel: Villa Carpegna, Massimo D’Azeglio, or similar (1 night)

Day 2– Montalcino, Chianti Area

After breakfast, we make our way to Tuscany through the unforgettable landscapes of the gently rolling, vine-clad hills of Montalcino. Here is where you have free time for lunch or to enjoy the village at your leisure. In the afternoon, enjoy a short ride to your hotel in the Chianti area where you will later meet for dinner at local restaurant.

Hotel: San Leonino or similar (5 nights)

Day 3-  San Gimignano, Siena

This morning, we drive to the hilltop of San Gimignano, the most picturesque of Italy’s perfectly preserved medieval towns. Visit the city center with free time to enjoy the town at your pleasure and do some true Italian shopping. Later, we’ll drive to Siena to follow our Local Guide through the city center to admire the elaborately carved Gothic Cathedral, Town Hall, and the famous Piazza Del Campo, site of the spectacular Medieval-style horse race. This evening, enjoy dinner in an authentic restaurant.

Day 4– Florence

Today, upon arrival in Florence, the splendid capital of Tuscany and birthplace of the Renaissance, follow our Local Guide to the Academy Museum to see Michelangelo’s original ‘Statue of David’. Then, visit the marble clad Cathedral and Baptistery where Ghiberti’s ‘Gates of Paradise’ have been recreated in all their glory. Next stop is the Signoria Square, political heart of the city and still an open air gallery of Renaissance masterpieces. The tour ends with a visit of the Santa Croce church where the tombs of Galileo and Michelangelo are kept. In the afternoon, learn the secrets of traditional Florentine leather-work and enjoy free time to enjoy Florence at your leisure. Dinner will then be served at one of the Florence’s amazing restaurants.

Day 5– Pisa, Cooking Class, Lucca

After breakfast this morning, we head through the earth of Tuscany overlooking the beautiful landscapes and the many medieval villages. Arriving in Pisa, you will have time to visit Piazza dei Miracoli and take picturesque photos of the famous Leaning Tower, 180 feet high and around 12 feet wide.  Today you will experience a three hours cooking class to learn how to make some of Tuscany’s most traditional dishes by a professional authentic Italian. For lunch, you will get to enjoy what you excitingly and so expertly cooked. In the afternoon, following our Local Guide, you will visit the beautiful city of Lucca.

Day 6– Montepulciano, Pienza

Today we drive in the heart of Tuscany to visit one of the most important cities known worldwide for its high quality red-wine production, Montepulciano, and enjoy a wine tasting. Later, visit the lovely village of Pienza where you can taste the famous cheese “Pecorino di Pienza” expertly paired with a fine local wine. After, dinner will be served at local restaurant for you to taste the specialties of the region.

Day 7– Orvieto, Roman Castels

Today we leave the region of Tuscany to reach the gorgeous hilltop town of Orvieto. Here, you have time to enjoy this beautiful city center as you desire. In the afternoon, we make our way toward our final destination, the hilltop of the Castelli Romani area (a group of villages where the Pope spends his summers). Here is where we will enjoy a Farewell Dinner in the evening at your hotel to celebrate the success of your vacation.

Hotel: Castel Vecchio, Villa Vecchia, or similar (1 night)

Day 8– Leaving for home

Arrivederci Roma! Our airport transfers arrive to Rome’s Fiumicino Leonardo Da Vinci Int. Airport (FCO) at 7:00 am and 9:30 am.

Transportation:

  • Private airport transfer at the arrival and departure in Rome. Should your flights not coincide with these arrival and departure transfer times, please let us know; we can arrange your transfer inexpensively to/from the airport by limousine.
  • Luxury air-conditioned private coach,  extended leg room & onboard restroom. (Not available on 22, 19, 9-seat vehicles)

Hotels:

  • Supreme First Class Hotel or Four Class Hotels. (4 or 5 Star ONLY)
  • Taxes, city tax and breakfast buffets.
  • Baggage handling included when not in airport.

15 Meals:

  • 7 American inspired breakfast buffets.
  • 2 Lunches to include:

1 wine tasting with fine local cuisine and olive oil tasting and 1 cooking class.

dinners at local a restaurant/agriturismo with an appetizer,  three main courses, dessert, mineral water, local wine, espresso, and American coffee.

Tour Guide & Tour Driver:

  • Your tour will be conducted by our Tour  Guide and Tour Driver. They will take the worry out of foreign travel as they manage the intricate details of  your tour, keeping you entertained with anecdotes and stories to make sure your vacation is educational, entertaining, fun and safe!
  • Any gratuities are at your pleasure for  your Tour Director and Tour Driver.

  • Experts in Siena, Florence, and Lucca.
  • Our local expert Guides are native citizens of the cities they represent offering a fascinating insight into local history, customs and tradition while entertain you with stories only a local would know!

Equipment:

  • Wireless headsets to hear our Guide clearly and distinctly in public places by utilizing our personal audio system for groups of 9+ allowing you to roam and explore sites (within 60 feet) without missing any insight from our Tour Guide or Local Guide.
  • One umbrella for each person in case of rain.

Florence:

Suggested attire:

  • Comfortable shoes are important for  walking on the  uneven surfaces.
  • Attire for Italian Churches: No shorts, skirts, tank tops, or bare shoulders for men or women are permitted. Bermuda shorts are permitted.
